It looks like Blizzard updated the 3.3 Test Patch notes last night, and this new tidbit just jumped out:
The Looking For Group chat channel has returned and can be accessed in all major cities (similar to the Trade chat channel) without the use of the Dungeon system interface.
It’s a brave new world. But how is this going to play out in the wild? Does this mean that there will now be two channels filled with drivel? Will one rise above the other? If so, which one and why?
If you’d like to win a Grunty The Murloc Marine in-game pet from Blizzard and The Instance today, just answer one or more (or all) of the above questions in a comment on this blog post before 1PM PDT (that’s 4PM EDT) today. One commenter will win!

man trade was enough now LFG oh my god /peers over the pit into hell
it might be like trade channel so when you leave town you leave the chat. I hope we wont see to channels with mean trolls(internet trolls) but maybe they will be two lazy to go to the new channel. If they make the look for party like trade but if they take out the ability to post links to quest and move it to the new channel than they will be great and equal.
Trade will probably remain king of crap, LFG will still be the seldom used channel it is now, maybe a little busier.
I think there will be yet two channels of drivel, and LFG will rise above. Simply because people havn’t /left it yet.
I think that the lfg channel will be totally filled with the same clutter because anyone anywhere in the world (of warcraft) will be able to speak through it at anytime. Just today i watched as some idiot was trying to pick fights in lfg with other people. Maybe with one of the channels they can put a filter so it needs certain words suck as LF…..
It will degenerate into another trade chat with pointless drivel as it did the last time the LFG channel was a gobal channel.
blizzard took it out cause of all the mess it was causing, i doubt they would bring it back without having something up their sleeves… /wishfulthinking!
OMG, another channel to ignore! This will also be full of kids spewing out more of the same immature, uneducated and nasty-minded crap that comes from Trade channel. I doubt if I will ever use it either.
While I wish I could have faith in my fellow players, I think the new LFG will be full of more of the same drivel as Trade. Hopefully Trade will return to being related to Trade while LFG will become Looking For Goons.
One will rise above the other, as long as you don’t open the oven and let all the heat out before it’s done.
Seems like a good idea to me. I’m sure I’ll use the LFG channel rather than the trade channel to gather groups in the future (if for some reason I can’t just use the new LFG interface). But one isn’t going to rise above the other, I don’t think. Even if you could link stuff into both of them, the most you’d see is them being used equally, but people like to do things the same way they’ve always done them, so even if just out of habit, people will keep using the trade channel for just about everything.
The new LFG just degenerate to Trade 2.0 with bickering about PvP balancing, gearscores and trolling, except on a “global” scale in a sense.
The numbers of people in the server (and in major cities) will basically remain the same, so all those that crammed into trade chat to talk will now be spill out (and hence divide) into two channels. Dont get me wrong, I dont think that the LFG channel will be used entirely correctly, but it will alleviate some of the ‘pressure’ on the trade channel, clearing it for more relevant chat.
I dont think you will see instant results though, people will use trade out of habit and it will take a bit of time for them to utilise LFG in the same way.
The LFG channel will for sure bring out the worst in the trolls, but then again, they will do it in whatever channel available.
Imo i think bring back the LFG is a good thing, with the new x realm pugging coming up. I have a lot off ppl on my server i would like to run with, but they might no be on their main when i log, so this way they’ll be able to spot me if i wanna run stuff.
I also hope Blizz isn’t gonna bring in the same x realm pugs for raids, this will put even more pressure on guildruns for the mediumsized guilds.
I was definitely annoyed at the LFG group channel being tied to the utility, so I think it’ll be useful to have it separate like trade
It would be hard to beat Trade Chat for idiocy, but I doubt it will be very useful, either.
I too am afraid LFG will devolve into the same kind of nonsense we see in trade chat. All I can say is thank god for AIE Call to Arms!
I have the same hopes as Blizzard that this will make LFG efficient but we have all learned the hard way how PUGs get setup, so I fear this till change nothing.
Yes both channels will be filled with drivel, as they are now. Hopefully the LFG channel will rise above the other and let trade be a trade channel.
Both channels will be equally useless. Currently on my sever, enter trade chat to do any business is like trying to scuba in a desert. Not only is it pointless, but you feel silly for even trying.
This will be yet another tragedy of the commons. But for the people, trade and LFG chat are wonderful. However, without the people, the channels are also worthless.
How will this play out in the wild?
People will use it more than the previous iteration because of the teleport feature.
Does this mean there will be two channels filled with drivel?
There already are. Oh wait, you’re not including trade chat are you?
Will one rise above the other? Which and why?
Yes. The new one will because of the teleport and cross realm features. Running instances will become more like runnings bgs.
I would imagine that there would be an initial rush of people spamming the channel with “omgz new lfg channel”, but it will eventually slow down to what it typically is now.
A few people who use trade as LFG MAY switch over, but I figure most will just ignore it.
I was looking forward to this until I read these comments. I wasn’t around when LFG was a channel before. I’m hoping it wont be useless on my server. Trade isn’t completely useless there so maybe it wont be.
I think its a good idea their adding a looking for group channel that is global, but I do think that it will get lots of spam chat, although not as much as trade q.q.
I just want the pet
…not writing much cuz I’m probably not oing to win
…not writing much cuz I’m probably not going to win
Lets face it the option to spam ANOTHER channel with horrible dribble is going to overwhelm our less sophisticated players sigh. However not too worried I hardly ever pub anymore thanks to AIE being the guild that it is.
