That’s right, you can now use the Account Management tool to purchase a race change.  The charge is $25 per change, and you get all of the options you’d expect in making your new look just right.  Blizzard has posted an updated FAQ on the thing, and we got a brief announcement by Zarhym.

And today, we’re giving away a Grunty The Murloc Marine in-game pet from Blizzard and The Instance to one person who answers this thread in The Instance forums before 8PM PDT (that’s 11PM EDT) today.  All you’ve got to do is have your say to win!

  1. hrmmm, the only thing i’d really rather my tauren hunter be is a goblin, so i think i’m gonna wait this one out. :/

  2. I’ve been thinking of changing my blood elf into an undead, but then where will I get enough long, luscious locks and wiggly fingers to satisfy me?… that just doesn’t sound right.

  3. I’m happy being a human (or a mustasch as Scott would say, lol). I was waiting until Cataclysm came out to switch over to worgen just because there would be nothing cooler than a worgen rogue, but last I hear they’re not going to allow players to switch over to the new races. At least not at first… Which makes sense, I mean I hear the starting zones are amazing and that blizz put in a lot of effort into the quests and whatnot. Still I would go back and do them once I had switch over, but that’s just me. Sure many others wouldn’t bother with that lower level content.

  4. I think this is a great addition to the game. I know players for years stuck as gnomes now they can finely become an actual cool Alliance race. lol Is it just me or is that picture for this post freakin sweet. I love that movie :)

  5. i can see why they are doing it, there must be alot of complaints..
i jsut think they are loosing track of what people started playing WoW for, which is the fun of leveling up, new characters. Just seems like they are giving us everything now, and not ina good way.

  6. this has the definate chance of allowing a certain amount of cheatery on the alliance side. the humans get a pretty substantial rep bonus and after hitting lv 80 and getting 10 or 20 factions up to revered than they jsut switch to what ever race they really want to play and poof (sudo) instant rewards for less work. on the flip side i think that it would be nice to try out different racial traits with out having to level from one to eighty. like a troll hunter going to change to an orc to trade the attack speed increase for the attack power increase and the bow skill for the pet damage.

  7. Darn, I loaded this page a dozen times today, hoping to get a chance and you guys waited until I went to bed (I work at night). Curses!

  8. Wish these give aways were for a longer time frame, at least a 24 hour period. These limited times when people are at work and can’t enter really suck.

  9. I don’t see why anyone would pay $25 for a race change, I mean sure you get a different set of racial abilities and that is great but $25 is more than a month’s worth of game time just for a different character appearance. It is not like the faction transfer where you actually get a change in game play due to their being different quest lines and towns to interact in etc.

  10. I think that the race change is only worth it for the racials. There’s really no point in putting a race change in the game other than for changing your look, and getting new racial spells.

Speaking of races, Worgen are supposedly a 2-in-1 race. They can go from Human form to Worgen form.

  11. Now you can flaunt your new look. You just ought to choose the way you want to look and then you can add the extra elements you require to pep up your new look. The interesting thing about the whole affair is that you just need to spend a small amount of $25 to get this new look. Moreover, your Account Management tool provides you all the help for this race change. You just need to make sure that your new look looks perfect on you.
