The Female Worgen – Exclusive First Look

We’re fortunate this morning to have obtained rights from Blizzard Entertainment to give you an exclusive first look at the female worgen.  Since Blizzard announced that World Of Warcraft: Cataclysm would include the worgen as a playable race, players have wanted to know what the female of the race in particular would look like.  Wonder no more!

It should be noted that the imagery here is of models that are a work in progress.  This may not be identical to the final look of the female worgen when Cataclysm is finalized.

There are three more images after the jump, and our commentary!

The female worgen in typical leather armor

The female worgen sporting chain mail

A plate-wearing female worgen

Our first reaction to seeing these images is very positive.  Blizzard has not only walked the fine line between difficulties when producing a model that has both human and animal characteristics, but they’ve also nailed the details!  We’re very much in favor of the female worgen as she looks today.  We’re predicting that the majority of worgen you see in game next year will be of the more fair gender.

What do you think?  Leave your comments below, as Blizzard is reading!

  1. I don’t know…the image of the female worgen reminds me of Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music.

  2. And Furries everywhere rejoyce :D

seriously though I like the look. though it looks a little more Vulpine then Lupine it’s still nice

  3. One thought comes to mind – I think it needs hair! Other than that, it looks a lot more aggressive than I thought.

I intend to change my Night Elf Rogue to a worgen when it becomes available (I’m not expecting it for some time after cata), and I’m thinking it’ll be a guy based on what I’ve seen.

  4. Next year? Does this mean you’re moving your September estimate back again Randy? :P

I love how her ears flatten when she gets angry. Overall, it looks pretty great. I think the head textures could use some more polish/shape though. Can’t wait!

  5. @Spiritus

Oh that would be cool… the Nazis invade and threaten the children when suddenly Maria transforms and rips them to shreads……

  6. Vulpine maybe I was thinking cat-like. They do seem to to lacking hair styles or mane styles as it were. Once they have their manes I think they’ll look more wolf-like. The emotes are really nice. Cat-like or not they look great.

  7. I noticed the glow of the eyes are different in each shot, does this mean you can choose the color that your eyes glow in the character creation options????

  8. She looks a bit like an angry wallaby. And her hands are comically large, but I think that’s the case for virtually every WoW race. Still, details are great and the facial expressions are the best part.

  9. The level of detail is amazing. What I really like is how she looks feminine but still very ferocious. Blizzard balanced on this line beautifully. Can’t wait to see hair and full movement in game

  10. Was hoping that they’d look a bit more beefy. They seem to have a really frail build, really narrow shoulders, skinny biceps and thighs. I was really hoping for something that looked a bit more durable lol. Not necessarily masculine or body-builderesque… just a bit stronger in appearance as most were-beast archetypes are. Was also hoping for tails. Maybe we’ll see it in the end.

  11. I really do like it. For once the Alliance is going to have some characters that are truly good to look at, with real unique looks to them.

  12. I like the worgen(s)! It would be funny if, just after transforming, the music from “thriller” plays (the keyboard part “thriller..thriller yeah…)” Something about these werewolves reminds me of the one in the Thriller video.

They do need more fur on the head and neck area, but otherwise – really nice to have an animal character on the ally side!

  13. I love it! I hope I can change the race on my 80 warrior from Human to Worgen so I dont have to level yet ANOTHER toon! I will do the starting area to see it, but thats it…

  14. I love how it looks so far. loving the eyes and the general shape of the face. Blizzard is really working hard to make it look as nice as possible. And for other comments people have made, this is just the model. She’s missing her style-able hair right now. They’ll all look better once they get the hair designs in there.

  15. I just noticed they have no tails. They seem to have used the space goat skeleton but removed the tails. I want big FURRY tails.

  16. One pet peave I’ve allways had with the female human frame is that shoulder pads never look right on them. I like the wide she-worgen shoulders, makes the armor ‘sit’ more naturally. Though I would like to see a thicker middle, she looks almost forsaken in the waist.

  17. Female dogs have 8 nipples. As someone who enjoys realism, I would like to see her have four bikini tops to mask them. My interest is strictly scientific, of course.

  18. I’m a bit disappointed in both the male and female worgen models. They already had great skins via the mobs in and around Shadowfang Keep (and in Northrend). But they seem to have felt the need to soften them, so much so that they now appear comical to the extreme. The worgen in Shadowfang Keep look fearsome, the new worgen models make them look like Scooby-Doo villains. No worgen for me in Cataclysm, I guess.

  19. @Just Saying: If you went by that idea, then the female tauren would have their boobs on their stomachs, and have 4 nipples. As awesome as that would be, I don’t think Blizzard plans on it.
    Looks good! I approve.

  20. they really should have the more hunched look…like the in-game mobs but with boobs.
These are too civilised. They don’t look like “worgen”, they look like Malamute People

  23. Ay guys i like the male worgen but not to sure about the female though looks kid of fox-like and kidish thanks love the show.

  24. I was looking forward to using them but don’t think I will though the best of the lot was the one of her in leather!! I think on the whole there is something that doesn’t fit in – ears and hands too large, the teeth and a whole lot of other “misfits”! Hope we have a better version of the Female Worgen that we can like playing with!!
