Big News Of The Week

Blizzard Is Flying High

With a little over two months to go until their celebration of all that is Blizzard, the makers of World Of Warcraft seem to have really hit their stride this week, with the future looking quite bright. At least, we think that’s the case. Maybe.

Rumors And Scuttlebutt

Saturday’s All Right For Fighting

OK, they weren’t fighting. Actually, it was just a friendly discussion. Saturday night, Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street sparred with posters in the game DPS forum in a thread called “Dude, why my totem?”

Rapid Fire R&S!

What more need be said? This week, we decided to hit several topics in this segment that are mostly unrelated, completely unfounded, and don’t need much discussion.

-Mini-deathwing!

-The Southern Barrens!

-Reforging is in the beta!

-The new beta patch notes are getting big. Really big. Still no addons, though.

-They’re still playing Warcraft III competitively for money!

Town Cryer

Can you decipher the mystery call of the week?

Drop Of The Week

Fight For Undercity!

This is the eleventh in our limited series, wherein we’re highlighting things for you to do in WoW that you might not ever get to do again after the Cataclysm.

We learned this week that the epic Battle Of Undercity questline so many players have yet to ever do… may be going away in Cataclysm. It appears that the mechanics of the event itself (as well as some of the lore logic) just make it impossible for Blizzard to carry it forward, so it may just disappear.

Additional show content provided by Darrell the Tipgiver, Steve “Buxley” Pietrowicz, James “Acuzod” Jefferies and the outstanding Instance Community.

Special thanks to DogHouse Systems, FigurePrints!, TypeFrag and SquareSpace for sponsoring this episode.

  1. The mystery call of the week: It sounds like he is saying Hi Scott and Randy, I think he is from the East coast Sort of has that “NYC accent.” Possibly Husky and of Jewish decent.

  2. Excellent show as always, im certainly looking forward to number 200! :)
Does anyone have any ideas who did the music at the end ? The two parody tracks were great, not a fan of the original death metal type track though but good effort.

  3. Greetings,

Regarding the “Battle Of Undercity questline” – where do you start it? Wowhead and Wowwiki say it starts with Vol’jin in Orgrimar. That dude has NO QUESTS FOR ME. What do I need to do to make this questline available?

  4. To Tim In SF: He will give you the Quest if you have completed all the prerequisite quests for it. I would recommend going to the Wrathgate Achievement page for a rundown of how to get to the “Battle of the Undercity” Keep in mind that it is a very LONG quest chain.

Randy i gotta say that i was surprised that you knew a Belgian beer i didn’t know ! And i am from Belgium ( West-Vlaanderen )!!! Also i’m pretty sure you might have miss pronounced it ;)

  6. Hey Scott and Randy, around the 50min mark, you mentioned a arms/fury warrior, I was wondering how you spell his name. Cant quite find the character on armoury.

    Thanks

  10. Love the show! Can’t wait to see what you come up with next. I agree with the people above I think your mystery caller said ” Hi, Scott and Randy”

  11. I also think that Lotro can steal some wow players I also got invited to the beta and can say this that it could steal some wow players.

  12. i just wanted to drop a note to say that i really disagree that lotro’s move to F2P is a clear step down.
the lotro move follows directly from the huge success of DDO’s (turbine’s other MMO) change to a F2P model. it’s has so energized that game that i imagine they felt they’d be crazy NOT to make the same move with lotro.

i also think you might be underestimating the opportunities people will have to give them money. i think the plan is that current subscribers will continue paying similar amounts and on top of that there will be lots more players who give it a go for free, some of whom will pay something at some point.

now, DDO and lotro are quite different feeling games and the model fits perfectly for DnD and not so well for the classic MMO of lotro. there’s an awful lot that will remain to be seen but i don’t think turbine have been forced into this move. i think they think it will make them more money and make their game more successful.

  13. Don’t worry if wow ever goes free-to-play Randy “Cliff Claven” Deluxe will shout from the top of every mountain what a fantastic progressive choice Blizzard made.

  14. love the songs played in this episode, especially the metal song! that song rocked! \m/ the other two were great too but i really want to know where i can find the other song at (not the one with the pets). the music page haven’t been updated yet so if anyone knows where you can get the other song at, much appriciated :)

  15. Great show, I just listened again on my jog. Last time I listened I liked the idea of the battle for undercity so much I immediately logged in to start it. Then figured out (after visiting every quest giver in the chain hehe) that I was already most of the way through! It was awesome! Thanks so much for keying me in, and thanks for a great pod cast.

  16. Hey There, the first of the last two songs is my band, Natural Wood. The song is called Garatoth and it is available for dl on itunes, Amazon, and a shit ton of other websites.

    cheers!

  17. I just discovered the instance.
and i must say i love what you guys do.
I must comment on what you said in 199 about why people are “upset” about blizzards recent appirent “greed”.
you are SO RIGHT about this.
I feel exacly that way, somehow betrayed by a old friend.
SC2 is still a great game but i can not get myself to play it anymore (after playing thu the single player) for that reason.
