Big News Of The Week

Goody Sacks Are Sacks Of Good

We’re now less than two months away from the start of Blizzard’s nearly-annual blowout in Anaheim, and this week they revealed some of what attendees and purchasers of the television coverage of the event will be getting in their swagger bagger.

Everyone who attends this year’s BlizzCon or purchases the BlizzCon Virtual Ticket will receive an exclusive set of murlocalyptic in-game items for World of Warcraft and StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty. World of Warcraft players will be joined by Deathy, a murloc companion decked out as Deathwing and doing his best to strike fear into the hearts of Azeroth’s crustacean population. You’ll also be able to display your tidal pride in StarCraft II with a Murloc Marine character portrait and a pair of deep-sea decals to emblazon on your units, each with a different terran, protoss, and zerg design.

Rumors And Scuttlebutt

Our Long International Nightmare Is Over

This week in a truly wonderful post, Zarhym said,

“With the release of the next beta patch, we plan to re-enable the ability for players to use third-party addons. Many of the core user interface features are now implemented in the beta test and functional, so we feel it’s a good time to open up the field for developing and testing UI modifications.”

Oh Thank Goodness

Sure, Lead Content Designer Mumper had previously said,

“note that all guild achievements start on Cataclysm launch, so anything you have now will not matter, it must be done with your guild after launch.”

But on Wednesday, responding to a question specifically about the guild achievement We Are Legendary (for constructing all the legendary items in the game), Mumper said,

“We are making a exception for this guild achievement. Any legendary items you have already earned will count.”

Sometimes, WoW Players Kick Butt In Real Life

This past week, we learned that professional mixed martial arts fighter Joe Lauzon is a World Of Warcraft player, and he even went so far as talking about the game in interviews leading up to his match with Gabe Ruediger at UFC 118 two days ago.

Rapid Fire R&S!

Coming in the imminent patch to the Cataclysm beta:

  • Goblin Big-Wheel
  • Dual Talent Specialization Cost Reduced to 100g
  • More!

How did we miss this? Orange County Choppers Alliance and Horde bikes.

Blizzard Wants More Aussies And Kiwis In The Cataclsym Beta

There’s a Dr. Horrible stage show??

Town Cryer

Drop Of The Week

Feed Your Eyes What You Fed Your Ears

We’ve tried to keep talk of our 200th episode last week to a minimum in this episode, but we just can’t hold back any more. It was so fun, and so much easier than we expected, and so gratifying. All we can do is thank you all. So what do we have for you this week? Some videos, that’s what.

Additional show content provided by Darrell the Tipgiver, Steve “Buxley” Pietrowicz, James “Acuzod” Jefferies and the outstanding Instance Community.

Special thanks to DogHouse Systems, FigurePrints!, TypeFrag and SquareSpace for sponsoring this episode.

  1. Ouch, you called Koala’s Kiwi’s, and referred to Kiwi’s (New Zealenders) as newzies! Terrible geography – great podcast, cheers guys.

  2. Yeah, guys- Kiwis are small flightless birds, not tiny bears. :-D New Zealanders are also called ‘kiwis’ in reference to the cute little birds.

“The most interesting man in the world of warcraft” is the funniest thing I’ve heard in a long time. Good work.

  4. While dungeon finder lets us hide from the issue a bit, Blizzard is already developing with the expectation that people will have dual spec. This being the case it may as well be free.
    IT STILL ISN’T ROLE PLAYING.
(there are a number of things they could have done to make it possible to solo as resto, they just chose not to put in the effort)

  5. …Interesting show. I stopped listening after the, jesus the lord and savior, or jesus the gardener comment. That’s rascist. Looks like rascists also play Horde.

  6. @Grayem
    /facepalm
Yeah, i stopped right after the “jezus lord and savior” since i’m jewish and he isnt mine. So that was a rascist comment to me :P

  7. @prion
I missed typed racist and racists. I know it’s hard to figure out what I meant.
    @Dujith
Jewish is a religion, not a race.
The comment the hosts made was kinda racist.
Not everyone that plays WoW or listens to this are WASPs.(look it up.)
I guess if it doesn’t bother you, you it shouldn’t bother anyone else?

  8. @ Grayem

Judaism is a race, as recognized by the Supreme Court in 1980. L2Internet.
    http://www.jewfaq.org/judaism.htm

FYI, I’m not a WASP either. I won’t use the “if you don’t like it, don’t listen!” commentary that I’m sure you were expecting. It’s fully within your rights to be offended by such comments, but don’t expect the community at large to share in your outrage.

Either way, I’m sure Scott and Randy have taken notice and will amend future commentary to avoid situations such as this.

  9. @Neverender
Thanks for the link, read through it. The supreme court only lists them as a race when applicable to anti-discrimination laws. Judaism still not a race, even the article speaks to that. So I guess we’re both right.

Look, I like, The Instance, been listening for years. I just heard the comment towards the end and felt that it came off in bad taste. I’m not outraged or highly offended. It just kinda of ruined the show for me, seeing as I know they’re both better than that, and it probably slipped past them.

I live in one of the four corner states, and been party to a lot of bigotry and discrimination in my life. So I have a low tolerance for it now.

Not quite sure whenever WASP came in. But you seemed to want to bring that up. so gonna ignore that :P
As for your original post. You wanted a reaction to that and had your replies standing ready. Which is fine, but tbh why pick now to be “bothered”? I thought the chinese ones were much worse :P
Anyway, post in the forum if you want a real discussion.

  13. So, this show was painful to listen to. People play this game for gear upgrades? Why? Isn’t that pointless?

I play this game because I like the feeling of my character, challenging encounters and arena. I play this game to push myself against other people and because it is fun. Getting gear isn’t fun, if you play for the loot treadmill you are honestly very stupid. Go play a mindless clickfest like Diablo or something (you probably click in wow anyway)

  14. @ Nick

Some folks like Warcraft for the gearing process, some like it for the RP, some like to use it as a social platform to connect with friends, some enjoy PvP, and some simply like the mmo game aspect of it. Beautiful thing about WoW is that it is so many things to so many people. What you think is a “loot treadmill” may mean something totally different. Why not try a little more open-mindedness and a little less hostility towards your fellow gamers, yes?

  15. Preditorr of the Rebirth of the Slayers on the Balnazzar server…

Scott, you totally messed up! Palin would definitely be a Tauren rougue!!!!! Dude, what is the name of her book?

    Love the podcast!
