Big News Of The Week

This Chat Ain’t Big Enough For The Both Hundred Of Us

This week, Blizzard changed the landscape for MMO players of several varieties – again. With very little warning that something of this sort was coming, they announced big updates to the WoW mobile armory.  Nethaera said,

“Coming soon in an update to the Mobile Armory app available in the iTunes App Store and Android Market, this new feature will allow all World of Warcraft Remote subscribers the ability to chat with their guildies right from their mobile device. Access to the guild chat feature is included for no extra charge in the $2.99 World of Warcraft Remote Auction House premium monthly subscription. In addition, soon after the launch of the mobile version we’re planning on adding the ability for premium subscribers to use Guild Chat through any browser on the Armory website.

Guild Chat will allow you to chat with your guildmates via Guild Chat, Officer Chat, and Whispers.

Rumors And Scuttlebutt

QQ: A Dramatization

We have a little fun with what Ghostcrawler said.

Rapid Fire Rumors And Scuttlebutt!

New Tinkertown and The Fight for Gnomeregan!

Heroic dungeons are now available in the beta!

The Early Stages Of Pre-Cataclysm Events Have Begun on the PTRs!

It’s Brewfest!! But you already knew that, right?

Town Cryer

Finrodel from the Argent Dawn server writes: Diablo 3!! Are you guys still excited for it? Or do you think that it will linger in Cataclysm’s shadow?

El Ciego on Muradin writes: I don’t know if my priest will be at lvl 80 by the launch of the pre-cata event. Do you think this will greatly limit my participation in the event to come?

Drop Of The Week

Kill! Or Be Killed! Try To Enjoy It!

The Cataclysm expansion brings along with it an overhaul to PvP in many ways, and none are so unpredictable as rated battlegrounds, which is to say – it is very hard to imagine what the PvP landscape will feel like in six months. We all may be looking back on this time, and the last few years, and reminiscing.

Well you can’t reminisce if you haven’t done stuff! So stop being gruff, get off your duff and kill some…. people. Hit the battlegrounds and kill faster, pussycat!

Additional show content provided by Darrell the Tipgiver, Steve “Buxley” Pietrowicz, James “Acuzod” Jefferies and the outstanding Instance Community.

Special thanks to DogHouse Systems, GoDaddy, and TypeFrag for sponsoring this episode.

  1. I’ve already caught a stupid mistake by me. Right there in the description for the mobile armory chat application, it says “includes whispers”. And I went on and on about how we need more than guild chat. Ugh.

  2. Anyone else notice that Scott mentions how he thinks blizzard is starting to give in to the evils of greed and doesn’t like that, but in all the frogpants podcasts I’ve been listening to recently he will abruptly break into a commercial for his sponsors half way through the show when they used to be only mentioned at the start? I’m not against either blizzard or frogpants making money because they both make top quality products. All I’m saying is Pot meet Kettle.

  3. i gotta agree with ya will. but in both cases i don’t care because i love the product that i get from both blizzard and scott. also, itunes doesn’t seem to show the new episode yet.

  4. So, during the commercial break there was some contest mentioned regarding doghouse systems. The only problem is I CAN’T FIND IT! It’s not on doghousesystems.com front page and doesn’t show up when googling “dog house systems instance contest”.

Can we get a link to the contest please?

  5. Randy what headphone model were you talking about??? Loving their website trying to make final decision. Love you guys! DURP

  6. Absolutely addicted to the show…To the point where I am downloading 3-4 shows to get me through a work day, and other times I listen to the same one twice in a row in case I missed something. lol, in any case, I love you guys. My absolute favorite podcast of all time.

  7. Will: Really? So you are saying that a free podcast with sponsors is the same as you being asked to pay money to use something? You don’t have to buy anything with the podcast. To use guild chat on your cell phone, you do.

So again, how are these the same again?

  8. Spent a lot of time not talking about WoW. Could have sworn it was a tech podcast. Looking forward to the next WoW related episode

  9. Scott: My point isn’t that the products are the same, they are obviously quite different. My point is Blizzard is merely changing the business model in their offerings by charging for access to these new premium features in an attempt to increase their revenue stream. Frogpants is also merely changing your business model in your offerings by giving advertisement spots at different times in your shows to, I assume, increase your revenue stream.

When blizzard makes these changes you view them as “caving to a baser… money grubbing nature” (9:53), I haven’t seen any comment on Frogpants’ change though.

I have no problem with either of these changes, Blizzard has a right to offer me a product that I won’t pay for and Frogpants’ has a right to increase advertisement time in shows that I will continue to listen to. (see what I did there, I tried to dissuade any angry responses by saying I <3 you guys ^_^)

  10. Will, that’s completely absurd.

It would be comparable if you paid fifteen bucks a month for Frogpants podcasts, and then Scott said “pay me three more bucks to be able to read the show notes on your iPhone”.

I really don’t understand where you pod people are coming from, because it’s certainly not planet Earth. I see so much whining about unobtrusive advertising on web content, it’s like you’ve never turned on a television in your life.

Content that you watch for “free” is, was, and always will be supported by advertising.

  11. Question – which thread was the dramatization based on exactly? I’m having a tough time finding it.

  12. So I’m wondering…. could a gold producing Mini-Game be Blizzard’s take on ‘Gold-For-Sale’? I actually kind of like the idea. It’s not QUITE pay for gold, as you still have to do SOMETHING to earn it, but it could be a counter to some of the gold farming/gold selling. That or the gold farmers would just all switch to ‘WoW-Rule’ to produce their gold. Which if it gets them out of game doing the sneaky under-the-world node mining may not be terrible either….

  13. Concerning the new Worgen female model, first few seconds I saw it, I hated it. But you know, the more I looked at the screenshots, they actually don’t seem that bad. More like bad ass. Less cat-like, more snarl to them. It’s grown on me already.

Though, if they revert to the previous model I’d still be fine with that.

  14. thanks for ruining easy A for me just like you wish you had not for yourself. i dont know why i listen every week i always end up pissed at your stupidity

  15. I don’t play WoW much anymore, but I love listening to your podcast. You guys are always fun to listen to, and a lot of the things you talk about are of interest to gamers outside of WoW. I especially loved the “dramatization” of forum qq-ing. I’ve been thinking about that subject a lot as I read the forums for Star Wars: The Old Republic, and listening to that segment almost made me spit out my coffee haha.

  16. I can tell you why Blizzard shouldn’t open non-guild chat outside WoW proper. Two words, “Gold Spammers.”

  17. I’m a little surprised nobody has already mentioned the easter egg in the new Armory app:

First go to the home screen. Select “Help”. Then choose “About”. Shake your phone and a NES controller will appear. Enter the Konami code (up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A).

The app will then say that Murky mode has been enabled and when you view your characters they appear as murlocs.

    Love the show, guys!

  18. Sarah Palin *SP* = Troll Hunter with Engineering Profession

10% damage against beast racial, shooting worg out of her roflcopter.

  19. Sarah Palin – LMAO – She’s a joke. I loved it! I think that to assign her a race and a class is an insult to that race and class. I would like to propose that she’s and Undead (cause she won’t go away) Rogue (cause she stealths around until it’s time to shadowstep into the limelight).

  20. Oh wow….just did the Murloc mode mentioned above by Mike. This just proves what nerds the guys at Blizzard are. You can select the dance animation for the murloc and he dances with a top hat and cane. Absolutely incredible

  21. Are you all going to announce the contest for the tankards? I really want a chance at those, they’re incredibly awesome. By the way, best podcast I’ve ever listened to. It’s like a sore leg, you just can’t beat it!

  22. This is the second place I’ve seen say that there is Mobile Armory for Android (PC Gamer said it too), but it doesn’t exist, and it’s been asked for plenty of times. There is no Mobile Armory for Android, only the AH app.

  23. I’m just now listening to this episode. At the 1hr 51min mark, you play an audio clip called “I Have Spread Disease Before” by Kyle W. Did you or Kyle ever make this clip available for download? If so, where might I find it?
