Big News Of The Week
Cataclysm Starts At Home.
With all the finesse of a bull in a china shop, version 4.0.1 of World Of Warcraft crept into live use yesterday, bringing about changes to many of the underlying systems of the game, weighing in at more than 20 gigabytes, and giving us the beginning of the end of the World!… of Warcraft. Or at least, the beginning of a new beginning.
December 7th! It’s official!
Blizzard announced last week that the the expansion will be yours to purchase on the first Tuesday of December, ending speculation. At least, ending that sort of speculation.
Rumors And Scuttlebutt
You’re A PVP God!
Right out of the gate last night, players were stunned to find how different some specs seemed to be. Today, none other than Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street posted a message entitled “Class Balance As Of Oct. 13th, 2010”, in which he stated the following:
“Please excuse the brevity. 1) We think Fury, Arms, Feral cat and Retribution dps is too low and we will be buffing them.
2) We think mage dps is too high, especially Fire, and will be nerfing it.
3) We think Shadow priest dps is too high, but that’s largely a result of Shadow Word: Death spam, which is tough on healers. We’ll be fixing that.
4) We think Destro warlock dps is too high, but that’s largely a result of Searing Pain spam, which is tough on tanks. We’ll be fixing that.
5) As we suspected, PvP dps is just too high given that the health pools of Cataclysm haven’t kicked in yet. While competitive PvP is over for the moment, we still want the environment to feel better so we will be buffing resilience. This change might be reverted at level 85.
There will probably be more changes after another night of raiding and BGs. Many of the bug fixes we have made today will affect dps as well. Stay tuned. “
We Broke World Of Warcraft. Sorry About That.
A week ago today, Blizzard dropped a dirty bomb on WoW communities like ours with the announcement that in Cataclysm, the game just couldn’t handle very large guilds, and installing a 600-guild-member cap on guilds.
Town Cryer
Allz callz.
Drop Of The Week
You Have Alts, We Have Answers
With version 4.0.1 of WoW upon us, many players are experiencing something they’ve not dealt with in a long time. Perhaps since they loaded Wrath Of The Lich King. How to assign talent points to your spec. Or specs. For those players with a half-dozen alts, it’s daunting, to say the least.

I’m very happy with Chakra:Smite state and Chastise for my Holy Priest. It makes soloing a lot more fun and it might even make Holy DPS / backup heals something I can play without spec nannies asking why I’m not in Shadow spec when I throw an unexpected extra heal their way.
Can anyone identify the music that plays underneath the doghouse systems add? I love that music but have no way of identifying it.
The redneck guy was frakking hilarious!!!
I have both an EU and US account, and editing the .wtf file works just fine. I can play one or the other.
Of course you can’t play on US servers with just an EU account or vice versa.
Well, the word “account” is incorrect, since I use the same Battle.net account for both, you just need a US retail key for the US servers and an EU retail key for the EU servers.
Oh and Randy sang the Thong Song when you were discussing Blizzard flip-flopping and Scott mentioned he used to call them thongs.
If memory serves me.
Anyone else having an iTunes error? “The file may be corrupt or in a format iTunes cannot play.”

I too want to know the song used in the doghouse ad, it was amazing.
Add me to the list of people wondering what that song was!
The vendors on the Traveler’s Tundra Mammoth are back to hitchhiking. They’re working on beta now.
Sam Muldia is correct. Absolutely correct.
I really used to enjoy listening to your podcast but lately it has become banal and in some cases very mean-spirited with regards to your recorded callers. I would think that with the recent suicides related to the use of social networking to bully others you would be a little more compassionate.
So you’re saying we should treat every call we get on the show as a potential suicide victim? Hmmm. No thanks. You can spend the rest of your days walking on eggshells all you want, but that’s not the kind of world I’d like to live in.
Play along with me here:
“Hi Scott and Randy. I would really like to know which of the two new races I should play first when Cataclysm comes out.”
“We think you should start with the Worgen and then try a Goblin after.”
“Oh crap! I really wanted you to say Goblin first! I’m gonna go kill myself!”
But in your example, you are not mocking or denigrating the caller, you’re just answering a question. It just seems to me that it has become acceptable to treat others cruelly in today’s society and I am not willing to give in to that mindset.
To be fair, your podcast is generally very civil when it comes to this topic so maybe I’m barking up the wrong tree. Perhaps I should start my crusade in trade chat or the WoW forums. On second thought, I don’t think I’d stand a chance.
Don’t mistake my replies as me trying to shut down your, or anyones opinions. I value them more than you know. I just happen to disagree, and we all need to remember that it’s ok to do that, even in today’s overly nervous society.
You make a good point about my example. But I still maintain that tip toeing around everyone simply because they might have a chance of being suicidal is just not gonna cut it for me.
For every one reported suicide that the media claims was brought on by social networking and cyber-bullying, there were 100 others that happened that same night for a 100 different reasons.
Scott, there was a song attached to the ad this week that I really liked, could you tell us what it is please?
Loved the show, thanks.

The QI guy is Stephen Fry
Firstly, the show is great – just keep ‘em coming on a regular basis!
Secondly, crush those eggshells! I think you should be lauded for the way you handled that call. The fact that you listened to it in its entirety and addressed it says enough.
Thirdly, keep pluggin away at those brewfest entries! *cough cataclysmic cider cough*
“Secondly, crush those eggshells! I think you should be lauded for the way you handled that call. The fact that you listened to it in its entirety and addressed it says enough.”
I certainly have no problem with the producers of the podcast listening to every call in its entirety..in fact I laud them for that. I’m not really sure what you mean by “addressed” unless you mean addressed with disguised derision.
What I DO have a problem with is playing this particular call for the sole purpose (at least in my opinion) of mocking and humiliating the caller. And although Scott qualified the the playing of the call with a (paraphrased…I don’t remember the exact quote) statement to the effect of “…and we’re not trying to make of this guy…’, I think he doth protest too much.
Come on guys, you can make a great podcast without having to resort to this. I know that WoW is going through a slow period (hence the use of the word ‘banal’ in my original post) but there should still be enough to discuss without having to descend to this level.
What was the name of the song which played during the doghouse add?
i like many of the changes. waiting to try others till cata…do it right from level 1
Also about the caller of ep.#205 regarding EU server change; I had bought the EU version of wow, and was given full access to all US realms. Maybe it’s possible to just reload wow and select a US sever, or perhaps it was a glitch they later fixed, I don’t know.(changed accounts and got US wow) it may be worth a shot.

i think ppl need to learn to leave working space open on their HD. I had the space for the installed game, but not the working space. I had to repartition to make it work and somehow lost the ability to hibernate!
