Renewed RP

Welcome back to another edition of RoleCraft, roleplayers! I managed to survive the Shattering this week, intact and in good health.

Much of the past week was spent exploring an Azeroth turned nearly upside-down and inside-out. New areas opened up, and many old areas are now so different they might as well be new. There are a ton of new quests and quest lines to follow, some fancy new RP clothing and trinkets to experiment with, and lots of other groovy stuff. All this long before (well, a week) the official Cataclysm expansion goes live!

As mentioned, I’ve been doing a lot of exploring the new areas this week, making notes and writing down ideas and locations for potential RP items. Honestly, it’s been quite invigorating, creating new character personalities and adventure paths for both old and new characters. I hope you all have been feeling it, also.

To wit, I’m going to share with you a few of my characters and their before-and-after RP themes. These are the ones that I feel currently hold the strongest potential for quality RP based on what’s new now and what’s incoming next week. Feel free to copy part or all of any of these RP traits for your own use, if you don’t already have them in play.

Cartographer
Well. Can you imagine having years of your painstaking work suddenly become invalid? My night elf cartographer (rogue) can! He’s spent the better part of his life up to now getting paid to creep into those places most citizens are afraid to go and retrieve for them certain items they desire, all under the guise of an honest mapmaker-for-hire, and getting paid well for his efforts. Now he gets to start it all over again. With much of the topography of Azeroth shattered beyond recognition, he’s back to work, redrawing maps of areas he’s sure he’s been to before. Hey, long as they’re paying, he’s available!

Techno-mage
My gnome techno-mage (fire) has once again been called back to assist with efforts in and around Gnomeregan. He’s already built many prototypical machines for the purpose of helping with the reclamation of his home, but had been tasked to the Outlands for the Alliance war efforts there. Now he’s back at his Ironforge laboratory, busily running new experiments and putting out various fires. Really, they’re not his fault.

Ecologist
My newest character, a draenei ecologist (hunter) has recently ventured out from the crashed Exodar, tasked with the mission of studying, collecting, documenting, and where able, caring for the flora and fauna of all Azeroth. The environmental elements have seemingly gone mad, and the reason why is yet still a mystery. The loss of his own home planet is still fresh in his mind, and it’s not something he wants to experience again. If he can also help save others from a similar terrible event, all the better.

Priest
Now more than ever have the services of a quality priest been in demand, even troll witch doctors such as he. He’s spent much of his time lately in direct service to Vol’jin, administering aid out on the Echo Isles. He’s also traveled a great deal, visiting places and checking on the well being of friends all over, such as helping escort refugees from Freewind Post to Camp Mojache, now that the entire Thousand Needles area is flooded. He’s also recently received word that the Cenarion Circle is now accepting trolls into their membership, and may look into that more in the future. Just about any place where evil dwells, he’s likely to be there.

Those are just a few of the characters I have in play now. Four more are in the works, but I want to investigate a couple more things, and see what new things are uncovered with the Cataclysm expansion, before possibly giving them the green light. I sure hope your own RP imagination is getting a resurgence of ideas. Maybe I’ve shared one or two with you here, even. Make ‘em work for you. Until next week, role on!

  1. I personally do not roleplay, but I’ve always enjoyed reading what others do in what I often consider to be just a game. Your RoleCraft posts are always intriguing and I would just like to thank you for your contributions to the Instance community. I look forward to many more ways to have fun in this crazy new world we now call home.

  2. Great show! Just wanted to comment on the change in PvP brackets. They changed it so that you wouldn’t have to wait until your in the last few levels of a bracket to join a BG while leveling.

For example…I started a new toon not long ago and I wanted to PvP to mix up the leveling. However, I stayed away from queueing up for a BG until I got to x8 or x9 because otherwise I would get my butt handed to me. Now I can queue up at x4, x5…and then x8 and x9.

Not a huge impact for endgamers, but makes it easier for people leveling up to experience BGs and PvP.
