Big News Of The Week
- You’re still talking about Ghostcrawler’s essay on heroics from 19 days ago. That’s right, it’s been almost three weeks since he posted it.
- You’re talking about Archaeology and random number generator.
- You’re *still* talking about goblins and worgen, and which you like more, and why you dislike one or the other.
- And more.
Rumors And Scuttlebutt
Archaeology Might Make You Some Money
In the forthcoming patch 4.0.6, it looks like Blizzard is increasing the vendor sale value of pretty much everything you create with Archaeology. In some cases, we’re hearing about value increases of 20 times the current, and in some cases, up to 80 or 100 times current values!
The Tol Barad Tidbits Keep On Comin’
Blizzard added something very interesting to the latest patch notes on this forthcoming bundle of joy. Specifically, attacking forces will receive a 200% capture speed bonus when they control 2 keeps, and defending forces will receive a 200% capture speed bonus when they control all 3 keeps. Double rainbow all the way across the sky! What does this mean?
Rapidfire Rumors and Scuttlebutt
Blizzard opened the “Raid and Guild Leadership” forum yesterday.
Blizzard is giving away two iPads every month in 2011.
Check out the art gallery: In particular, dig into that painting of Kil’Jaeden. It’s huge!
Town Cryer
Kiplen from the Altar of Storms realm writes: I am just recently returned to Warcraft after a hiatus of a year and a half. I had a lvl 55 dwarf hunter before and never got a chance to experience any endgame raiding or anything. My question is about macro’s. What are they and how can you create them without any real understanding of programming?
Drop Of The Week
Tanks For Dummies
What to do when you’re prepared to tank, and don’t know how to get started? We’ve gotten loads of e-mails the last couple of weeks like the following one: Sorlin said “I’ve done my research and now the only thing I have left to do is customize my UI. What mods should I get, what websites should I visit or what general things (like a threat bar) should I have to make me a better Tank.”
- -First of all, we want to address the tank’s big needs from his or her UI. You need to immediately target any of the mobs you’re fighting, be warned when you lose aggro, see what debuffs are on the target, what defensive cooldowns are have available, active, or on cooldown, and their remaining time, know information about the current boss, and review your group’s performance during and after a fight.
- Here are the mods that you want to acquire and master to accomplish all that: Tidyplates, PowerAuras, Deadly Boss Mods, and Recount. Perhaps Skada, if you don’t like Recount.
- Our buddy Ravanna showed us this macro:
/cast [mod:alt] Heroic Leap; [mod:ctrl] Intervene; [mod:shift] Intercept; Charge
- Many more essential tank macros here.
- Finally, you need websites with resources for your tanking needs. You need to devour Tankspot, and the Elitist Jerks forum that is specific for your class: Elitist Jerks Druid Tanks, Elitist Jerks Death Knight Tanks, Elitist Jerks Paladin Tanks, Elitist Jerks Warrior Tanks.
Additional show content provided by Darrell the Tipgiver, Steve “Buxley” Pietrowicz, James “Acuzod” Jefferies and the outstanding Instance Community.

Wow, Randy! Wow!
You will be missed.
What the freaking frakking FARK!!!

PLEASE get Mike “the Turpster” Turpin as a cohost. I will love you forever!
Don’t want Randy to leave! >_<
What job did Randy get? At Blizzard I'm guessing? XD
Hey guys, been along time listener and love your show. Just want to chime in about the what randy said about “Google would never email you if your account getting hacked from china”, well actually gmail have warning panel on the front-page (its not an email) when your account is unauthorized access. Just want to chime-in about the misinformation that was mention on the show. Love you guys and keep up the great work.
Bye Randy. You will be missed! I agree with Stormstrike, #142 is one of my favorite episodes (where turp was a guest)
As Bram said, what the caller was talking about was a built in functionality in gmail, where you will get a notification if someone logs into your account from a location where you usually do not log in from. In this case China.
I also wanted to submit a tip regarding passwords. As an alternative to Randys method.
* Come up with a rediciously good password.
* Select a position somewhere in this password
* Add a character in this position from the name of the service you are using the password for, w for wow for instance.
Example: If your password is 3FrYdr34 and you select the position after the “r”, your wow password would be 3FrwYdr34, gmail password 3FrgYdr34 and so on.
This way you will only have to remember one password, yet still have different strong password on each of your services.

You have been a real friend, Randy, and I’m gonna miss you. (big gay hug and a couple of tears). But at least we still get to hear you on Filmsack. Good luck at your cool new job. (sob) IT’S THE END OF AN ERA!
The Instance is no longer Deluxe!! /cry
Aww Randy, we’re going to miss you! But good luck with the new job!
I’m so sad to hear this, and it looks like its the end of the instance road for me after all these years. Without Randy it won’t -be- the instance anymore, it wasn’t -The- instance before it came and it won’t be when he leaves. At least I got the memories and the hope he comes back. Randy, I love you
Correction about the hacked… Gmail does send u a msg that u’r gmail account has probably being hacked.
check this in gmail:
You are currently using 3044 MB (40%) of your 7546 MB.
Last account activity: 18 minutes ago at IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. Details
check ur details and it has happened also to me… got a pop up msg (not a mail) from gmail telling me that a diferent zone from what I’m used to login tried (and probably succeded to login my account) I checked that the account was from south korea then traced it to china.
Changed the pass to something wich included “a A 1 &” chars… and that’s it
One thing you can always count on is change.
I will definitely miss Randy’s contribution to the show. There was a very nice balance between how Randy and Scott approach the game. The Instance became a better show when he came on full time, but I’m also looking forward to what the new Instance will be!
Best of luck to Mr. Deluxe in his new endeavor!
Wow, dude..
I’ll be honest. The Instance was carried by both Scot Johnson and Randy. Randy brought the balance that wasn’t there when Scot and Andrew did it. Without Randy, it’s not going to be the same. I’m glad he got a job and his decision was the reasonable one. I really hope him all the best.
Best of luck Randy and I hope we’ll still hear from you on non-wow related shows.
And by my previous comment I did not mean to come across as if I was glad that you are leaving Randy, because it has been a wonderful run with you on the show and it won’t be the same without you. good luck with whatever job you got though
“Strength of the Listener” is a talent in the “Pod Cast” tree. It requires 3 points in “Frog Pantser.”

Hey just wanted to say bye to randy you will be greatly missed but I wish you the best in all of your endeavors. I’m so happy you will still be a part of Film shack and it would just be nice if you and the film shack crew would do a podcast reviewing newer films, your symtompis of the oscar/golden globe(whichever it was) nominations were one of the highlights of the first week of the morning stream. Anyways again Randy you were awesome and you will be missed by many.
First Patrick and now Randy get a Blizzard job – presumably due to The Instance. You should be getting finder’s fees, Scott.
Yeah, I don’t get the conflict of interest thing, unless the job is with Blizzard. If that’s the case, I wish you the best of luck there. I only wish my artistic talents were good enough to work there. Good luck Randy!!
Wow, what an incredibly bittersweet piece of news. I’m somewhat shocked actually. Scott and Randy as a hosting duo is one of the best I’ve ever heard. Right up there with television and radio crews. The balance and chemistry that you guys have brought to the show is incredible.
Obviously a huge congratulations is due for The Deluxe, and the decision is certainly the right one for Randy and his family, but god damn I’m going to miss him! Such a gifted, hilarious and intelligent presence on the mic and as an entertainer. I’ll be surprised and disappointed if Randy’s new job isn’t something that has him interacting with and/or entertaining people in some way. He’s such an absolute natural at it.
All the love in world goes to you Randy. Good luck to you and your family, I’m sure the future only holds good things for someone as likable and talented as yourself. I’ll still be listening faithfully to The Instance, but you will be impossible to fully replace. Take care!
Wouldn’t it be great if they handed Randy the reins of the Blizzcast show? He’s clearly got the chops for it, and with him behind the wheel, I’m sure we’d get updates MUCH more often.
Just a thought.
No. No, no, no, no.
Friggin pissed off that Randy is leaving. My bad day just reached its climax.
Please minimise my trauma by getting The Turp as a cohost.
Randy I love you, you are jing for this show!
My heart seriously dropped when Randy said he was leaving. Been listening to the show for 2+ years…very sad to see you go Randy :[ I wish you the best of luck.
i am crying i have been listening for about 2 years now and with randy leaving i started tearing up
Ive been listening to the podcast since just before Randy came onboard, and as many have said it really came alive once his presence was felt in the show. Randy, you will be missed, you and scott make a perfect broadcasting duo. Its always been a fun and entertaining show – and while sometimes the things both of you have said have made me shout out “NOOOOOO” thats just part of the fun and shows how you both motivate the listeners. You will not be replaced, but only superceeded.
To those suggesting Turpster, it would maybe be cool if he could do this (but I dont think he would REALLY be the right one to play opposite to scott on this show), but I cant see him being able to make the recording schedule on a regular basis being (mostly) based in England. I know I very rarely manage to catch the live show at 2-4am living in England myself.
Anyway… All the best to Randy and family. Hope your new plans work out well for you.
Sadness!
I don’t even play WoW anymore, but I still listen to The Instance because Scott & Randy always put together such a professional & fun show. You guys have the perfect point-&-counterpoint balance & chemistry, and while I’m sure that the new co-host will be fine, it just won’t ever be the same.
That said, congrats on the new job and kudos to you Randy, for putting family & the job first. Best of luck and Happy Trails!

Aww, now who is going to tell me I’m stupid because I use non-standard characters in my toon names or because I say 2011 “wrong” or because I play a gnom….wait, Scott will still do that.
Thank you for all your contributions to the show Randy, you really punched it up and gave it a professional edge. I am also glad you found a job in a place you really want to be. Aloha Randy. /wave
No! No! Noo! Cataclysm wasn’t supposed to tear this asunder.
Randy, Thanks for all the great moments you’ve given us over the last four years. We will miss you.
P.S. Just so someone asks, Randy, how are you today?
Noooooo, Bye randy
What a great run you guys have had together. You guys were what got me in to listening to podcasts and I have been hooked ever since. You have been both educational and informative and have helped me take my WOW experience to another level. Randy thank you for all of your time, talent, and love that you put into the show, we will miss you. Scott, we are looking forward to you picking up the banner and marching forward in the finest tradition of The Instance.
Thanks for everything Randy DeLuxe. We all freaking love the crap out of you and wish you the best in your new job!
To be honest I kind of shed a tear when I heard you leave ;(
Much love
This is my first, and probably ony comment here. I hav listenedto his podcast for years.. I only know it as Scott’s enthusiasm and Randy’s intelligence. For me, it was a perfect balance. These podcasts kept me company during countless hours of my life, always making me laugh and feel better. Maybe to some it’s just a podcast, maybe I’m being dramatic… but The Instance really has been there for me more than nearly anything else in my life. You two have entertained me and felt like friends to me these past years… Ill miss you Randy,so much. I hope I still enjoy the Instance, though I know it will never be the same. Congratulations Randy!
Well, I just listened to the next to last episode of the instance I’ll probably ever download. Since Randy is obviously going to work for Blizzard, the only person who ever knew what the hell was going on on that show (excluding some guests) will be gone. We are left with a guy that can never think of the name of any thing, zone or mob in the game. (i realize the show was written by Randy Jordan, but I don’t believe he wrote THAT much incompetence into Scott Johnson’s part). Scott always strikes me as the kind of adolescent huntard jerkoff that no one likes to play with. He never gave anything new a chance until Randy dragged him to it. I heard few opinions that Scott held that he didn’t flip-flop on once he learned of RJ’s PoV on the matter. I used to be sure that RJ worked for Blizz, but I think mainly that it was because his insight and attitude about WoW and related topics outshined Scott to the point that Scott just looked like the guy who was only on the team because he was the owner. The wrong guy left the show. Congrats to Randy on whatever he’s moving on to *(only leaving the Blizzard/WoW related podcast on the FP network, not Film Sack which holds no conflict for a Blizz employee). Scott, good luck, man. You’re gonna need it.
@Roguetonowhere
Congrats! I guess you just won “Douchebag of the Year” and it’s only February! Scott’s a very successful podcaster who’s been doing this for a long time. He brings humor and a whacky perspective that most of us enjoy listening to. Now, go tell your mommy that your favorite podcast is “crap” because Randy got the opportunity of a lifetime and maybe she’ll make you a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to make your butthurt go away. She’ll even cut off the crust! How sweet!
“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”
~ Dr. Seuss
Best of luck to you Randy.
@roguetonowhere
Maybe instead of listening, you should go to a personality workshop or something. You’re an idiot. You basically described SJ as braindead but let’s see…
You – Random guy posting under a stupid name. Completely Unknown. Butthurt for no reason whatsoever.
Scott – Successful internet personality. Enjoys life. Well-known in the podcasting/WoW community.
Maybe you should take a hint and shut your mouth.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I formed mine after listening to 200+ episodes of The Instance. You based yours on one post I made. One doesn’t have to review too many episodes and the comments that accompany them to see that people think the show has been going downhill. If the Virtexapp ad was your first clue, you have my pity. “The World of Warcraft podcast so you don’t have to.”, huh? I predict an increase in the number of people who are starting to question that.
Suddenly worried that I may have been unfair, I checked out a lot of Scott’s other material, and it’s worse than even I gave him credit for. He is far more juvenile than I thought. I just listened to the first few minutes of the podcast he named after a hot morning piss. Really, Scotty? Joking about Asperger’s cause “the word ass is in it and it says burger at the end”? He’s all dick jokes and brain farts. The fact that so many dim-wit mouth-breathers identify with him and look up to him is not my definition of successful. Looks to me like he’s an ego-maniac who thinks that for some reason the world wants to know about his views on everything. I get that just by making these posts I am veering in that direction myself, so I’ll just take that as read for the people who want to bitch about what I’ve said here in the posts that are sure to follow. Extra Life isn’t funny for the most part. In Film Sack (yes sack), as in The Instance, he is again the dead weight. If he didn’t surround himself with people who are much more interesting and intelligent he wouldn’t have shit going for him. Now you have three whole posts to judge me from. If you don’t feel like typing your dumb shit responses, just leave me a voicemail at 331-333-5332.
You will be missed
Thanks and best of Luck !
My only hope that whoever is chosen to replace Randy brings knowledge of the game to the table just like Randy filled that role. Scott is great but he doesn’t really stay on top of things in the wow world especially things like PvP and other non-hunter class changes.
There are already a lot of great SJ humor podcasts, lets keep this one informative and interesting discussing WoW topics.
good on ya, Randy. You’ll be missed mate.
