3.3 Million Deathwing Fans Can’t Be Wrong
In case you haven’t heard, Blizzard launched a little something called World Of Warcraft: Cataclysm exactly one week ago. Today, Blizzard announced that the third expansion to WoW destroyed the record for most sales of a PC game in its first 24 hours, with 3.3 million copies sold.

Would You Like To Play A Game?
Today on the all-new and wondrous WoW community site, Bashiok told us all about War Games.
“Beginning with Arena Season 9, we’re giving Arena and Battleground teams the option to challenge each other to War Games, a new kind of skirmish that allows teams to practice, set up matches against friends or rivals, or even try out potential recruits.”
We’ll All Look Back On The Good Ol’ Days Of Guild XP
Remember, way back in early December 2010? When it was four times as much as it is now? For all of one week? The rumor going around and around tonight is that Blizzard has cranked the amount of xp you give your guild down from 100% to 25%.

Zydiri writes: I am currently in air force flight training. In the plane I fly there are three little panels that pop out by the jump seat. Sitting as the jump seat gets pretty boring so people pop them out and write stuff on the inside. Last week I was reading each of the panels in turn. The first said something about how awesome class 10-06 is. The second one said Lieutenant So and So Sucks… The third one had FOR THE HORDE scrawled in big black marker. Naturally I said “That’s right For the Horde.” Of course my intercom was on and the pilot and copilot both turned back to look at me. Not a very cool move… Anyway, since then I have been inspired. I have started writing OBEY HENRY in black marker on any blank spot I can find on those panels. I think by the time I am done here I will have gotten to every jet on this base.

The Story So Far
As the world’s races struggled for survival in the wake of the Cataclysm, details came to light concerning what—or who—had caused the disaster. Prior to the upheaval, the Fury of Earth had cryptically told Thrall that Azeroth’s instability had been caused by something good that had turned unnatural. Something that wished to inflict pain and suffering on the entire world.

ANOTHER excellent podcast by the ever fun scott and mandy, thoroughly enjoyed by all the Irish players on Kul Tiras!
I was really really sick once and Shatted in my pants.
I nearly choked to death on a jawbreaker when I heard “vagina smear”. Thanks!
You got a problem figuring out how to use your keyboard??
shift click on their name in chat! It gets inserted in the chat box!
Both the iTunes and the mp3 link stop downloading at 21.1mb. I’ve tried it on 2 computers, both stop at the same point.
You said that you didn’t find some of the mid level leveling zones so compelling. In my experience there’s a lot of variance in how good the 20-60 zones are. For example I wasn’t all that impressed with Wetlands and Arathi Highlands, which are pretty similar to an old vanilla leveling experience.
However, some zones like Thousand Needles and Badlands are among the best zones in the game right now. I’d count only a few of the new zones like Uldum, Vashj’ir and the goblin starting zones as better. I’ve only seen less than a third of the new pre 60 zones, and I’m excited about eventually seeing them all before the next expansion comes out in a few years. While there have been disappointments in some of the zones, there are also some really really amazing quests in there.
Scott, when comparing yourself to Mal, you probably didn’t want to put the word crap and the phrase seat of the pants in adjacent sentences. Just sayin’…
Otherwise great show.
As a member of a couple of 5- or 6-player casual guilds, I’m not holding my breath regarding Guild Experience. Rather than a cap, it might have been good to have a progressive system. The first 1000 points at 100%, from 1001 to 5000 at 75% until the highest levels are at 1%. That way the small guilds get some bonus and the everyone in the mega-guilds can contribute.
Good to hear there’s hope for AIE’s continued growth. I keep meaning to apply…one of these days. Of course, with AIE growing and Blizzard offering free transfers out of Earthen Ring, before long, will there be anyone in Earthen Ring who’s not in AIE??
Scott, Randy, enough! We all know you love Horde and hate Alliance. But enough is enough. Simply tacking “just kidding” on the end of a slam does not take the onus off of it. It has never bothered me before. But lately it seems to have crossed a line.
Sounds like a bad case of faction-chooser’s remorse, to me!
This was the episode where we talked about how wonderful the Worgen are, right? Sheesh.
Scott,
Here’s where I’d suggest you look into Obey Henry patches locally:

Embroid Me in SLC and Murray.
They’ve done some work for us in the past and did a fine job.
Using Windows 7, and the podcast stopped loading at 20min. Great work every week, guys! I always look forward to the podcast, which serves me as a good general news source on all-things WoW. Merry Christmas!
That was probably the most vagina jokes I’ve heard in one day (and I volunteer at a sexual health clinic) LOL
when they add up the sales numbers for first day, does that include preorders and digital downloads?
i mean from previous days
MMkay, I can’t play the podcast from the website (says file not found) & I cannot download it via iTunes. Glitch?
JohnM: Dude…really?
What is “the line” exactly anyway…
PS We don’t hate Alliance. We love people with a good sense of humor and that don’t take themselves too seriously.
Now that I’ve finally gotten my hands on the podcast, I’d like to toss in my two copper on the Northrend loading screen. I think he’s screaming about the need for lotion to treat his horribly dry and cracked skin. “Lotion! I need lotion!”
i hope i don’t have to look at him for the next two years, i don’t really find it to be a good render. when he opens his mouth it looks like a Muppet’s mouth.

Buxley, I dig your stuff…. the Grandma got ganked song has some great potential, just needs some production love.
Catackleysm rocks! And if you’re upset that The Instance likes the Horde more than the Alliance… stop playing the lesser faction.
I play on Nazjatar! I’m really happy to hear this realm getting mentioned. If you’re going to Nazjatar, I’d suggest transferring as Alliance. The guild Winds of Plague will be happy to have anyone who wants to join.
Quite frankly the thing I’m most excited about in Cataclysm is the fact that heroics – ostensibly – will no longer be AoE-fests.
My main concern though is that, as people progress in terms of gear, heroics will resort to their easy-mode state. Apparently though, with each new tier of gear Blizzard is planning on releasing a new heroic along with it. I truly hope that’s the case.
Remember when a Heroic Steamvault naga mob used to be able to one-shot anything not wearing plate? I do, and it’s this level of challenge that I hope Blizzard embraces once again.
Love the podcast, one suggestion can u put Grandma got ganked playing world of warcraft on the downloadble music page plz,i luaghed so hard i need to have it on my ipod
You know that Outlandish Podcast already did a parody of that song 2 years with the same premise.
SumDuud… agreed. Just had to go with what I had. I did to a YouTube video of it, but it’s got the same soundtrack.
Sk8ter274…. you can get it from The Buxley Show podcast feed on iTunes.
S6… hadn’t heard that, and wouldn’t have done and submitted mine if I had. I did a Old Spice parody earlier this year and sent it off to Ladies of Leet, but pulled it when I heard Randy’s excellent parody came out before mine. Sorry if someone feels my Grandma song stepped into someone else’s work.
Long time listener. I have to say over the past year or so I have found the content of each podcast to be more PG17 and maybe should require a warning. I often spend time in the car with my 9 year old checking the show out, but in the past year or so I find the subliminal childish comments and puns to be too much for me to expose my son to. This last episode was a perfect example. Scott just could not refrain from the Vashir pun over and over again. My son loves listening to the show but I feel it has slipped into a more mature audience and should require a warning. Thanks for all the work you guys do but I feel its best for me and my son as Wow podcast listeners to move on.
@Zaxxor: Agreed.
I’ve been listening to the instance for a while but had to turn off this last episode. The vaginal jokes were neither funny, nor necessary. It’s more akin to a couple high schoolers talking in their mothers basement than what this show used to be. I simply cannot keep listening to this podcast if there is a chance that a co-worker will hear ‘vagina smear’ should I accidently unplug my headphones.
To comment on the faction pride thing, I’ve had the opposite experience of you guys. By that I mean that, to me, it seems as if the Horde has gotten all the love and pride. Now this is just my personal impression, and I admit that some of it is stuff that I’ve only heard of. One such thing would be that, in Blizzcons past, that Horde would drown out any Alliance cheering. Since I’ve never been to BC, that could be malarkey. I just assumed it was so since I never heard it contradicted.
The whole controversy about “For the Alliance” vs. “For the Horde” (on the coolness meter) seemed to illustrate it to me. I saw that on Youtube from Blizzcon 2010. I myself have never looked at it as that big a deal in reality, and I admit that being a former regular on the Story Forums on the old WoW forums colored my views. After a bit of reading over the threads that claimed this was so, it just seemed as if Blizz truly had fallen in love with Thrall and his noble, savage orcs, and lost touch with Lothar and the Alliance. This seemed especially true as far as the coolness of the questing experiences went, and the obvious love and care that went into the Horde story lines, while the Alliance seemed…stale.
Now, is this actually the case? I can no longer say with certainty, but I chose to not worry too much about it. Cata has introduced excellent quest lines and intriguing cases of internal and external conflict, both between the factions, and within. Horde is experiencing growing pains and painful adjustment, and I’m intrigued and excited to see it all play out! The Alliance, of which I’m a diehard devotee, is also experiencing growth and a lot of change, and I just want to settle in and soak it all up!
So…my experiences have struck me as different than yours, but I’m in total agreement that everyone has their favorites, and it doesn’t really matter.
Dang, I can ramble!
I had no idea Randy was a trained researcher who can evaluate clinical data and personal anecdotes and make judgements based on that. These “non-experts” are obviously wrong about their own experiences and should fall in line with these expert-approved statistically optimal methods.
By this logic, diabetics should not take insulin because in an unrelated study, non-diabetics injected with insulin suffered ill effects.
Of course the clinical data will support the idea that noise during sleeping is bad, not least of all because they run trials where people with normal sleeping habits are subjected to noise they’re not used to and then compared to a control group of normal sleepers not subjected to noise.
Before you discount personal experience, realize that some people suffer from insomnia and are not part of these clinical trials in any significant way.
I’ve personally had severe sleep onset insomnia since I was 12 or so (I am now 30). What finally worked for me was exactly what Randy rails against. I don’t listen to music (it’s not monotonous enough), but rather audiobooks or some podcasts. My insomnia has always been a product of me being unable to stop thinking, listening to something that can just barely hold my attention makes me stop thinking and allows me to sleep. I do use a sleep timer, but not because the noise would hinder my sleep, but rather I don’t want to run out the batteries of my iPod.
That said, it’s obviously not a good idea to allow this dependence on outside noise if there’s no underlying sleep problems in the first place.
But personally, 15 years of insomnia were most certainly not caused by noise during sleeping, because there wasn’t any. Noise during sleeping helped me actually sleep after being convinced that i would never get more than 4 hours of sleep at night (if I wanted to be employed).
Zaxxor, the game is not suitable for 9 year olds, why should the podcast be?
And PG-17? Sorry, but if your 14 year old can’t take a vag joke or two, you need to take back the electric butter churn and just go full on Amish.
Scott, why döēs łt płss øthēr pēøplē øff łf sømēønē hās nön-ständārd chāräctērs ¦n thē|r nämē?
It’s their own grave they’re digging. If you don’t like typing out the name of someone else, then don’t.
Marc Andreessen (or Lou Montulli at Netscape, if you want to get specific) was responsible for the horror of the BLINK tag, not the esteemed Tim Berners-Lee.
Re: BLINK
…and that was at Netscape, not something we did in Mosaic first.
Sam…nice reply…did you write that at home or while you were in science class. No my son does not play the game but he enjoys video games and watching me play. no need for your Troll comments when I was simply stating my opinion on the content of the podcast.
What is this about the alliance blowing Draenor? Lol
Love the name scott of your goblin, I’m quite happy that I actually got the name “Gobber”. Still stuck at level 1 though. Enjoying the 85 experience a lot.

Hey guys, just a quick question. I’m trying to find the song or episode that you guys did with the kick ass autotune song, I believe it was called spreading disease, not real sure though. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch, keep up the great work.
